- Input: a YouTube URL (watch, youtu.be, shorts or live) for a video with captions turned on, either uploader or auto-generated. English captions are used first; otherwise any available language.
- Output: one Markdown brief and one JSON file with TL;DR, 5–8 key points, 4–12 chapters with times taken from the transcript, 3–5 quotes, 5 Q&A pairs and any action items. You can add one question of your own with --question.
- Everything is written by an AI model from the caption text only. It does not watch the picture or listen to the audio, so details shown on screen but not spoken are missed, and the AI can make mistakes. Check important points against the video.
- Your question is answered only from the transcript. If the video doesn't cover it, the answer may be incomplete.
- Requirements: Python 3.8+, pip install -r requirements.txt, and your own OpenRouter API key set as OPENROUTER_API_KEY. No key is included. Each video uses one model call, billed to your OpenRouter account by OpenRouter's rates (usually a few cents).
- Limits: videos with captions disabled return an error. Transcripts over 120,000 characters (about 2.5 hours) are cut off. YouTube may block caption requests from some cloud/datacenter IPs.
