DriftGuard — AI Dependency Migration Agent

DriftGuard — AI Dependency Migration Agent

DriftGuard analyzes a repository for dependency and API upgrade impact, identifies affected code, applies targeted migration changes, and validates the result with tests. It returns a structured migration result with changed files, diff, migration report, test results, and PR-ready summary. Runs with Claude Agent in Capafy and supports terminal/CI workflows.

DriftGuard — AI Dependency Migration Agent

Turn breaking dependency upgrades into validated, reviewable code changes.

DriftGuard is an AI-powered repository migration agent designed to analyze dependency and API upgrades, identify affected code, apply targeted migration changes, and validate the result with the repository's test workflow.

Instead of stopping at "this dependency has a breaking change," DriftGuard works through the repository to produce a concrete migration result that developers can inspect and commit.

The Problem

Dependency upgrades can affect much more than a version number.

A major release may change:

  • Function signatures
  • Imports and exports
  • Authentication methods
  • API response structures
  • Configuration formats
  • Deprecated methods
  • Type definitions
  • Test expectations
  • Related application code

Finding every affected location manually can take hours or days.

The difficult part is not discovering that a dependency changed. The difficult part is understanding how that change affects the developer's actual repository and validating the resulting code.

DriftGuard is designed to automate that workflow.

What DriftGuard Does

1. Analyze the Repository

DriftGuard receives a repository and migration target, then analyzes relevant dependency manifests, source files, configuration, and tests.

It builds repository-specific context instead of relying only on a generic description of the dependency.

2. Identify Migration Impact

The Agent identifies code and configuration that may be affected by the requested dependency or API migration.

Where available, it can use package registry and migration information to provide additional context about the target dependency.

3. Plan the Migration

DriftGuard determines which files and code paths require changes.

This helps avoid treating a repository-wide migration as a simple search-and-replace operation.

4. Apply Targeted Changes

The Agent applies migration changes to affected source files, configuration, dependency manifests, and tests when required by the migration.

Changes are produced from the context of the supplied repository.

5. Validate With Tests

DriftGuard runs the supplied project test workflow after the migration.

When validation reports failures, the Agent can analyze the results and perform additional correction attempts within the configured iteration limit.

Test results are returned as part of the structured execution result.

6. Produce Reviewable Results

A successful execution can return a structured result containing:

  • Status
  • Changed files
  • Unified diff
  • Migration report
  • Test results
  • PR-ready migration summary

The developer can then review the generated changes before committing them.

Example Workflow

A developer can provide a repository and migration target such as:

capafy run driftguard scan \
  --repo . \
  --package stripe \
  --target-version v14 \
  --test-command "npm test --silent"
