🛡️ ScamShield — Free Scam & Risk Detector

Before you click. Before you pay. Check it.

ScamShield helps you identify warning signs in suspicious messages, URLs, job offers, online shopping deals, investment pitches, and payment requests. It provides a structured risk assessment, explains potential red flags, and suggests practical steps to verify an offer before taking action.

✨ Features

  • Message screening: Examine suspicious emails, SMS messages, social messages, and payment requests.
  • URL checks: Identify suspicious URL patterns, misleading domains, and common link red flags.
  • Job and shopping checks: Review unrealistic salaries, fake discounts, advance-fee requests, and pressure tactics.
  • Investment risk screening: Flag guaranteed returns, urgency, and other common investment-scam indicators.
  • Clear risk labels: Classify findings as HIGH CONCERN, CAUTION, LOWER CONCERN, or INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE.
  • Actionable guidance: Receive specific verification steps and safer next actions.
  • Privacy-conscious design: The local checker uses transparent rules and Python's standard library, without requiring a paid threat-intelligence API or API key.

🚀 How to Use

  1. Paste the suspicious message, offer, or URL you want to examine.
  2. Identify the type of content, if applicable.
  3. Review the risk assessment and the red flags found.
  4. Follow the recommended verification steps before clicking, sharing information, or sending money.

📊 Example Assessment

Example: “Congratulations! You have won a $5,000 grant. Pay a $49 processing fee today to claim it.”

Risk level: HIGH CONCERN

Potential red flags

  • An unexpected prize or grant.
  • An upfront payment required to receive money.
  • Urgency designed to discourage careful verification.

Recommended actions

  • Do not pay the processing fee.
  • Verify the grant through the official organization's independently located website.
  • Do not share passwords, verification codes, or financial details.

This is an illustrative example, not a live scan or a guarantee that every similar message is fraudulent.

🔎 Risk Levels

Level Meaning
HIGH CONCERN Significant warning signs require caution.
CAUTION One or more suspicious indicators need verification.
LOWER CONCERN Fewer obvious warning signs were detected; this does not establish safety.
INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE There is not enough information for a useful assessment.

🔐 Privacy & Safety

Never submit passwords, one-time verification codes, full payment-card details, private keys, or other sensitive information. Redact personal information before checking messages.

⚙️ Technology

The included local checker uses Python's standard library and transparent heuristics. It does not require an API key or paid threat-intelligence API. Live reputation checks and external threat-intelligence lookups are not included in the starter implementation. AI analysis depends on the capabilities of the platform running the agent.

⚠️ Important Limitations

ScamShield is a screening aid, not a security guarantee. It may miss sophisticated scams or flag legitimate messages for review. A lower-concern result does not prove that a website, seller, job, investment, or payment request is safe. Verify important claims independently before acting.

Stay alert. Verify independently. Protect your money and information.
