Saju Naming - Korean Baby Names, Explained

Scores Korean name candidates against a child's saju using sound-element (음오행) theory, and shows the traditional reasoning for every point — which element the chart is missing, whether the name fills it, and how the sound flows from the surname.

What it does

Give it a birthdate and a surname. It generates name candidates, scores each one against the child's saju, and tells you why each score came out that way.

How the score is built

Three axes, and nothing else:

Axis What it asks
보완 Fill Is an element completely absent from the chart, and does the name's sound supply it? (heaviest factor)
흐름 Flow Does the energy pass from surname into given name, or collide?
과다 Excess Does the name pile more onto an element the chart already has too much of?

Every point traces to one of these. There is no hidden number.

Sample output

This child's chart: 木1 火0 土2 金0 水1 — 火 and 金 are empty, 土 is heavy

1. 홍나은 (88) — "Fills what the chart was missing"
   · Fill — 火 was absent from all four pillars; ㄴ supplies it (+18)
   · Flow — 土→火 generating, 火→土 generating (+20)
   · Excess — 土 was already heavy and the name adds it once (−8)
   (58 + 18 + 20 − 8 = 88)

2. 홍지호 (88) …
3. 홍민서 (74) …

Sound-element mapping

The five element groups come from where the consonant is articulated:

Element Initial consonants
木 Wood ㄱ ㅋ
火 Fire ㄴ ㄷ ㄹ ㅌ
土 Earth ㅇ ㅎ
金 Metal ㅅ ㅈ ㅊ
水 Water ㅁ ㅂ ㅍ

Notes and limits

  • This is 음오행 (sound-element) naming, not 수리성명학. Stroke-count schools need a database of several thousand personal-use Hanja; this skill derives everything from Hangul sound instead, which is why it can always show its work.
  • Consonant assignment follows mainstream modern practice (ㅇㅎ=土, ㅁㅂㅍ=水). Schools that follow the original Hunminjeongeum read ㅇㅎ=水 and ㅁㅂㅍ=土, so results can differ — the skill says so rather than hiding it.
  • Four pillars are read (year stem/branch, day stem/branch). Birth time is not required.
  • Works for renaming adults (개명) as well as newborns.
  • Answers in English by default, Korean on request.

A reference, not a verdict. Parents name the child.
