Cover Letter for Journal Submission
What it does
Drafts a cover letter for a journal submission that argues for fit: why this article belongs in this journal, rather than summarising the article the editor already has.
What you need to provide
Three inputs: the article (or abstract and introduction), the journal's aims and scope, and at least one recent article from the journal that your submission is in genuine conversation with. The third input is what makes the difference between a form letter and a real one.
What it won't produce
"I am delighted to submit." "Makes a significant contribution." "Timely and important." "Engages with." "I hope you will find this suitable for publication." These phrases and a full list of AI-register cover letter language are prohibited. The letter reads as written, not generated.
Structure
Opening paragraph: the fit argument: the specific conversation, the recent article, the central claim. Second paragraph: the contribution and its significance for this journal's readers. Closing sentence: word count, sole submission confirmation, contact. Total: 200–300 words.
Scope
Academic articles in the qualitative human and social sciences. Not for book proposals, grant applications, or conference abstracts.
