SharpDraft — Edit for Clarity

SharpDraft — Edit for Clarity

Takes any piece of writing — an email, a Slack message, a report, a doc, a cover letter — and tightens it up: cuts filler, kills unnecessary hedging ("I just think," "sort of," "kind of"), removes throat-clearing openers, swaps vague words for concrete ones, varies sentence rhythm, and nudges passive voice to active where it's just habit rather than a deliberate choice.

ClearWrite

Tighten & Clarify Text — an editing assistant that makes any piece of writing shorter, clearer, and more direct without flattening your voice.

What it does

ClearWrite takes a draft — an email, a Slack message, a report, a doc, a cover letter, a social post — and runs it through a consistent editing pass:

  • Cuts throat-clearing openers ("I wanted to reach out because...")
  • Kills hedges and filler qualifiers ("sort of," "I just think," "kind of")
  • Removes redundant phrases ("due to the fact that" → "because")
  • Swaps vague words for concrete ones ("utilize" → "use")
  • Varies sentence rhythm so the text doesn't read like a flat list
  • Nudges passive voice to active, except where passive is the right call
  • Matches tone/register to context (a Slack message ≠ a cover letter)
  • Fixes weak, repetitive endings

It works across languages — the underlying moves (cut filler, front-load the point, vary sentence length) aren't English-specific.

What it won't do

  • Flatten a distinctive voice into generic "corporate neutral" tone
  • Change the substance of a claim while editing its style
  • Apply aggressive cutting to creative writing, poetry, or legal/technical text where precise repetition is load-bearing

How results are delivered

  • Short pieces (a message, an email): rewritten in place, with the 2–3 biggest changes flagged so you learn the pattern.
  • Longer pieces (a doc, a report): either a few before/after examples plus a summary of recurring issues, or a full rewrite with a short changelog of edit categories (e.g. "cut 4 hedging phrases, moved the ask to paragraph 1").
  • If you just want feedback rather than a rewrite, you'll get a list of specific, quotable issues instead of vague notes.

Example

Before:

I just wanted to reach out and see if maybe you had a chance to look at the report I sent over last week, no worries if not, just wanted to check in on where things stand at this point in time.

After:

Did you get a chance to review last week's report? Let me know where things stand.
