Divorce Money Inventory
The divorce document marathon is a known exercise: three financial snapshots, a 30 item checklist spanning accounts, loans, tax returns, benefits, estate documents, insurance, and appraisals, and the warning that missed documentation compromises your financial interests. This skill digitizes it. The script validates a fixed CSV schema, flags document gaps by category with the exact item names to collect, nets debts against assets by owner, and runs the split math for 50/50 plus any custom percent you name.
How it works:
- Build the inventory CSV: one row per account, debt, property, vehicle, and valuable, with owner and document status.
- List every debt as its own row. Forgotten debts are the classic inventory failure.
- Run the script with both spouse names and your split percent.
- Read the document gaps first and collect every flagged item before the lawyer meeting.
- Read both scenarios, rerun the custom split for any proposal on the table, and hand the report to counsel.
Who it is for: Anyone starting a divorce who has been asked for a full financial disclosure, anyone heading into mediation who wants the real numbers first, and anyone who wants to know what a 60/40 split is actually worth in dollars before agreeing to it.
What you get: The inventory_builder.py script (Python 3, standard library only, no installs, no accounts, no network calls). The fixed CSV schema with the 7 type vocabulary and owner codes. The 30 item disclosure checklist across 7 categories plus the always collect set. The scenario math: 50/50 baseline plus any custom split, per spouse, with the joint net stated. The lawyer ready markdown report format with the item table and gap list. Two fully worked examples: a 9 item estate with verified 55/45 scenario math, and a malformed CSV the script catches before any math runs.
