OpenSignal — Zero-Key Trend Intelligence

Discover emerging trends. Validate signals. Find your next opportunity.

OpenSignal is a research agent that analyzes public-web signals to help creators, marketers, entrepreneurs, and researchers discover rising topics and turn evidence into practical ideas.

It is designed to work without API keys, paid data subscriptions, or credit-card-backed APIs.

What OpenSignal Does

  • Trend discovery: Identify topics attracting attention across public sources.
  • Topic research: Investigate a niche, keyword, industry, or emerging technology.
  • URL analysis: Examine an accessible public URL and summarize relevant information.
  • Content opportunities: Turn research findings into article ideas, social posts, video concepts, and content angles.
  • Business opportunities: Explore potential products, services, audiences, and market gaps suggested by available evidence.
  • Watchlists: Review selected topics for new signals when the agent is run again.

Public Data Sources

OpenSignal is designed to use publicly accessible sources, including:

  • Google News RSS — news coverage and emerging discussions.
  • Hacker News Algolia API — technology conversations and community interest.
  • GitHub REST API — public repositories and development activity.
  • Wikipedia API — accessible reference information and topic context.

Source availability, rate limits, network access, and the Capafy runtime may affect individual searches. Not every source will return useful results for every query.

How to Use OpenSignal

The agent supports five research modes.

1. TREND — Discover What's Rising

Find emerging topics, examine available signals, and identify potential opportunities.

Example prompt:

Discover emerging AI trends using recent public-web evidence. Rank the strongest signals and suggest three content opportunities for each promising topic.

2. TOPIC — Investigate a Subject

Explore a particular industry, niche, keyword, or technology.

Example prompt:

Research AI agents for small businesses. Identify relevant public discussions, development activity, notable changes, and underserved content topics.

3. URL — Analyze a Public Page

Analyze an accessible public webpage and extract useful information.

Example prompt:

Analyze this public webpage, summarize its main claims, identify its key takeaways, and suggest related research opportunities: [paste URL]

4. CONTENT — Turn Signals into Content

Convert research findings into actionable content ideas.

Example prompt:

Based on available evidence about AI productivity tools, suggest five SEO article ideas, five short-video concepts, and three social media angles. Explain the evidence behind each idea.

5. WATCHLIST — Monitor Topics

Revisit selected topics in later sessions and compare newly available signals with previous findings when that context is available.

Example prompt:

Check my watchlist for AI agents, creator tools, and marketing automation. Identify newly available signals and explain what has changed since my previous report, if comparison data is available.

Evidence-Based Scoring

OpenSignal aims to assess signals using factors such as:

  • Recency: How recent is the available information?
  • Activity: Is there evidence of discussion, development, or coverage?
  • Cross-source support: Do independent sources support the same observation?
  • Opportunity potential: Could the finding lead to a useful content or business idea?

Scores and rankings are analytical estimates, not guaranteed predictions. They depend on the information available and should not be treated as verified market-demand measurements.

Output Format

Reports aim to include:

  1. Executive summary
  2. Key findings and supporting evidence
  3. Source links and relevant dates, when available
  4. Signal strength and limitations
  5. Content and business opportunities
  6. Recommended next steps

OpenSignal should distinguish observed facts from interpretations and recommendations. It should not invent sources, statistics, publication dates, or evidence.

Privacy and Responsible Use

OpenSignal is designed to retrieve publicly accessible information. It should not be used to bypass access controls, access private resources, or collect confidential information.

Do not submit passwords, API secrets, personal information, or other sensitive data. Requests may be processed by Capafy and the relevant public-source services under their applicable terms and privacy policies.

The absence of a required API key does not mean that external services have no usage limits or data-handling policies.

Technical Design

  • Python standard library for core functionality
  • No mandatory third-party Python packages
  • No required API keys for the intended public endpoints
  • Public-source evidence and source attribution
  • Input and URL safety controls
  • Defensive handling of untrusted webpage content

Actual network access depends on the deployment environment. If a source is unavailable, OpenSignal should report the limitation rather than fabricate a result.

Who Is It For?

  • Digital marketers and SEO specialists
  • Content creators and publishers
  • Entrepreneurs and indie makers
  • Product researchers
  • Technology enthusiasts
  • Anyone looking for evidence-backed ideas from public information

Important Limitations

OpenSignal is a research assistant, not a guarantee of future trends, sales, rankings, or profitability. Public data may be incomplete, delayed, biased, or unavailable. Validate important findings before making financial, strategic, or business decisions.
